[Hi, Johto. Enjoy the sound of a heart monitor breaking your otherwise quiet night, along with a rather bright blue glow before the camera on this end can adjust. That is what happens when a gear gets turned on from relative darkness and is soon faced into light, so what can you do? Not much besides wait for it to clear and reveal a room in a Pokémon Center somewhere, with a tank of water in the center and a chair nearby.

There's also a tiny Horsea floating in the tank with what can only be an oxygen mask attached to its snout and leads attached to its body. That must be the source of the sound, but the source of the feed isn't so easily traced back right away. It takes a moment, but a sound that can only be a Dragonair humming soon breaks the monitor's steady beeping, and the feed shifts a bit to reveal that it is instead a Dragonair, coiled in the corner of the room and in control of the gear with his tail. The Dragonair looks looks up, shifting the camera back towards the tank as his trainer enters with a nurse right behind him, taking a seat while the nurse does her checking, then looks to the boy who...looks about ready to fall over.]

"Mr. Hitsugaya, are you sure you'd like to stay? There's nothing we can do but wait--"

Thank you, but I'm sure.

[The nurse sighs at his stubborness, but doesn't bring up the issue again as she notes down the changes on the chart in her hand, looking to the clock on the wall then back to Hitsugaya.]

"I suppose there are worse places to be spending your birthday. Call for us if anything changes."

[With that, the nurse leaves him staring at the clock, and after a moment, he sighs and looks back to the tank. Yeeeep. Guess who's spending his birthday in the Pokemon Center and just doesn't seem to care. This guy, that's for sure. He only sits, watching the Horsea for long moment and saying nothing while Shiryuu squeezes the gear and shuts it off. They're in for a long night.]

[Then it's a good thing he doesn't sound all that annoyed...because he's really not. He's almost a little touched someone he barely knows is doing this. Almost.]

[nod.] Almost daily. It's part of my job.

[ Oh, what would a Hitsugaya/Matsumoto relationship be without the migraines? ]

But that means that the rest of us can be in some serious danger right now, doesn't it?

[ Not like they haven't been in serious danger before, but Sado, Ishida, and Ichigo aren't here to help her fight like they've always been, and that, admittedly, is a little scary. ]

Geez - that's pretty intense! What kind of job is it...?

[A very odd relationship. Just wouldn't be right.]

It does. That's why remaining separated isn't the best idea. There's only so much one team of Pokémon can do against a determined attacker.

[He gets the scary bit; for someone used to have backup or just winning the fights they get into, it can be terrifying to have no chance of that here.]

Crossing human spirits into the afterlife, and dealing with the monsters that prey on them. They tend to be stubborn creatures.

Ahh, so you're a shinigami too, then? Like Byakuya?

[Another nod, even if he's surprised that Byakuya would be the first to mention it.] Like Kuchiki and the others from our world, yes.

[ Nope, wouldn't be healthy, either! ]

I'm glad that I'm with Rangiku-san, then... Do you have a travelling group, Toushiro-kun?

[ Right, except now she realizes that there are four shinigami here who, while powerless, are probably trained in physical combat also. Fighting alongside them will be different, but they're just as capable as Ichigo and the others are... So really, she shouldn't be afraid. ]

You'll just have to see what happens, then.

[ Heh. If almost is the closest she'll get, then she'll take it. ]

Ah, so there's more of you, huh - ? Do you all do the same kinda stuff, then?

It's what we're trained for, though we all see varying levels of combat. Some never have to use their swords.

[Definitely not!

Also, he shakes his head now. No group. He's on his own and frankly prefers it that way.]

[She doesn't have to be afraid...yet, at any rate. They'd still have her back if the time comes, though.]

I suppose we both will. If you can get your plans past the nurses, any way.

[It's good she's taking it, because it's the closest she'll get. For a while, anyway. He's a slow one.]

Ah... sounds difficult. I mean, from what I know about the stories I've heard about shinigami, I never knew it involved, y'know. Swordfighting and stuff like that.

It isn't as hard as it sounds, once you're used to it. Nothing is.

[and a short pause. Stories?]

What sort of things to the shinigami on your world do?

Uh, well... all I remember is, they're death gods, right? And they collect souls... or something like that.

[A quick headshake; at least the translation is the same, but...]

Then there is a difference between the ones on your world and mine. We protect souls, not collect them.

...I'll just wait until you get to leave.

[ Fine by her! It's something, at least! ]

Ahh, that sounds way less intimidating than collecting them.

I can leave at any time. It's my Horsea that can't, and I won't leave him alone here.

[By choice, anyway. He's light enough to be dragged out of the Center, and his other Pokémon would help in her noble endevours.]

That depends more on what we're protecting them from at the time, I'd think. It isn't an easy job.

Hmm... do you enjoy it, though?

[Shrug] It's work. Enjoying it isn't a concern of mine, so long as it gets done.

... But wouldn't it be easier? If you also enjoyed it, I mean.
