[Hi, Johto. Enjoy the sound of a heart monitor breaking your otherwise quiet night, along with a rather bright blue glow before the camera on this end can adjust. That is what happens when a gear gets turned on from relative darkness and is soon faced into light, so what can you do? Not much besides wait for it to clear and reveal a room in a Pokémon Center somewhere, with a tank of water in the center and a chair nearby.

There's also a tiny Horsea floating in the tank with what can only be an oxygen mask attached to its snout and leads attached to its body. That must be the source of the sound, but the source of the feed isn't so easily traced back right away. It takes a moment, but a sound that can only be a Dragonair humming soon breaks the monitor's steady beeping, and the feed shifts a bit to reveal that it is instead a Dragonair, coiled in the corner of the room and in control of the gear with his tail. The Dragonair looks looks up, shifting the camera back towards the tank as his trainer enters with a nurse right behind him, taking a seat while the nurse does her checking, then looks to the boy who...looks about ready to fall over.]

"Mr. Hitsugaya, are you sure you'd like to stay? There's nothing we can do but wait--"

Thank you, but I'm sure.

[The nurse sighs at his stubborness, but doesn't bring up the issue again as she notes down the changes on the chart in her hand, looking to the clock on the wall then back to Hitsugaya.]

"I suppose there are worse places to be spending your birthday. Call for us if anything changes."

[With that, the nurse leaves him staring at the clock, and after a moment, he sighs and looks back to the tank. Yeeeep. Guess who's spending his birthday in the Pokemon Center and just doesn't seem to care. This guy, that's for sure. He only sits, watching the Horsea for long moment and saying nothing while Shiryuu squeezes the gear and shuts it off. They're in for a long night.]

Blink. ] Your... birthday...?

[Nod.] Hmm. December the twentieth.

I-Isn't that today--?!

-!! I-It's your birthday today, Toushiro-kun??

[ Oh no oh no oh no how could she not know asdfghjkl;! ]

[Another nod.] It is, yes. I don't see the point in getting excited over it, though.

[...why does he get the feeling he's going to be getting this a lot? Darned nurse...]

It is, yes.

[Probably didn't know because he never told anyone. He's crazy that way.]

[ She kind of. Understands since she doesn't like to make a big deal out of it. Still, though... ]

And you're okay with spending it in the Center?

[ Oh, Orihime would have found out eventually, silly goose. ]

Ah... And Christmas is coming up soon too, right?

[ And then, to herself: ] Then his present will be a birthday-slash-Christmas gift-- no, no, that's not right...

[ A little more incoherent mumbling before she addresses him again. ] A-Are you cold, Toushiro-kun?

[Still, he doesn't see it as a big deal. Never has.]

It isn't as if I have anywhere else to be.

[Yes, well, he wasn't expecting that to happen on the actual day..

Also that's a nod then a glance. What is she muttering about?]

Not really, no. The center is heated.

[...yeeep. He missed the point entirely.]

Or, hm, maybe a better question would be: Are you cold when you're in, um, non-heated places?

[ Good good, she doesn't want him to get the point! ]

[headshake.] The storms haven't been as bad this year as they were last year, and I have a coat. I'm fine.

[Then it's a good thing he's still missing it, huh?]

...

[ Sigh. ] Are you coming back to Johto anytime soon?

[headshake.] Not until the nurses say he can leave. I don't know how long that's going to take.

[He being the Horsea in the tank...at least Hitsugaya is dedicated to his team? He hasn't exactly left the room at all.]

[ Darn. ] Okay- ah- how about... your Pokemon? Are they doing okay?

[Nod.] All fine, other than him. [Him being the Horsea in the tank; the heartbeat is steady, at least. That should say something.]

We don't need anything, Inoue. We're all right.

{Nanao's quiet for a long moment before she speaks up.}

If it's any consolation, the same thing happened to my Riolu. Late in hatching, hatched with...

...issues.

[He simply shakes his head, Shiryuu humming at the familiar voice through the speaker.]

He was supposed to have hatched no later than May, Ise. Issues may end up being the least of my concerns.

[ First Toushiro and then his Pokemon... ] Will he be okay...?

[ Ahh, he's making it a little difficult for her to carry out her plans orz ] I guess I'll just have to talk to Rangiku-san, then.

[They attract trouble. It's a thing.] He should be. The nurses said his chances were good if he could pull through the first couple of days.

[Only a little? Dang, he's off his game. Also starting to get a feeling that maybe he should be worried; talking to Rangiku never ends well.] You may have trouble reaching her. She's been remarkably quiet lately.

[ Yes, it's good that he's dedicated to his team. She notices. +10 brownie points, good boy. ]

How'd that happen? [ Referring to the Horsea's condition. ]

[He does try, really. And better team dedication than people skills...at least in his eyes.]

He hatched too late. The nurses said he was supposed to have hatched no later than early May, but...[sigh] He hatched yesterday.

[ Which isn't always a bad thing, of course. As long as his mind's in a good place. ]

Do they know why?

[ Nods and gives him a small smile. ] Ah... That's a relief.

Q...uiet...? [ Only a little. He would probably be a lot more difficult if he knew what she's trying to accomplish. ;; And woah what- Rangiku? Quiet? Really? ] Why...?

[It is. Most of the time. Same as his heart...when he remembers to thaw it out.]

He was apparently the weakest in his clutch. They're calling it a miracle he survived this long, let alone that he hatched at all.

[Though he can guess why he survived.]
